Is it sufficient to free a disbelieving slave?
Hadith 12628
١٢٦٢٨ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا ابن علية عن يونس عن الحسن أنه كان لا يرى عتق الكافر في شيء من الكفارات.
Yunus narrates that Hasan did not consider the freeing of a disbelieving slave as valid in expiations.
Hadith 12629
١٢٦٢٩ - حدثنا وكيع عن (سفيان) (١) عن (ابن) (٢) أبي نجيح عن طاوس قال: يجزئ اليهودي والنصراني في كفارة اليمين.
Hazrat Tawus states that in the expiation of an oath, freeing a Jewish or Christian slave is sufficient.
Hadith 12630
١٢٦٣٠ - حدثنا ابن علية عن مغيرة عن (إبراهيم) (١) قال: لا يجزئ عتق أهل الكفر.
Ibrahim says that freeing a disbelieving slave is not sufficient (the expiation will not be fulfilled).
Hadith 12631
١٢٦٣١ - حدثنا جرير عن مغيرة عن إبراهيم قال: (لا) (١) يجزئ اليهودي والنصراني في الرقبة الواجبة.
Ibrahim says that freeing a Jewish or Christian slave will be sufficient.
