Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Alqamah bin Waqas that Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq, and Hazrat Umar were present with Hazrat Saad bin Muadh. By the One in whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), I could recognize that this is the sound of Abu Bakr’s weeping, this is Umar’s, and I was in my chamber. She says: They were just as Allah has said { رُحَمَائُ بَیْنَہُمْ } compassionate among themselves. Hazrat Alqamah said: Mother, what would the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) do (in grief)? Mother Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not weep over anyone in a wailing manner; when he (peace and blessings be upon him) was grieved, he would hold his blessed beard.

Hazrat Abu Usman narrates that when I brought the news of the death of Hazrat Nu'man bin Muqarrin to Hazrat Umar, he placed his hand on his head and began to weep.

Hazrat Ibn Abi Awfa says that there is no harm if someone cries or tears come out, but wailing and crying in the manner of lamentation has been prohibited.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) was in the market when he received the news of Hajar's death. He took hold of his shawl, stood up, and was overcome with weeping.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aamir bin Sa’d al-Bajali that Hazrat Abi Mas’ud, Hazrat Thabit bin Zaid, and Hazrat Qarza bin Ka’b say that permission has been granted to weep over the deceased without wailing.

Hazrat Amir bin Sa’d narrates that I came to Hazrat Abi Mas’ud and Hazrat Qarza bin Ka’b, so both of them said: Indeed, we have been permitted to weep in times of calamity.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aamir bin Sa’d in a similar manner.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that a funeral passed by the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with women weeping alongside it. I and Hazrat Umar were also with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Hazrat Umar scolded the women who were weeping with the funeral, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O son of Khattab! Leave them, surely the soul is afflicted, the eyes are shedding tears, and the appointed time (promise) is near.

A narration similar to this has been transmitted from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him).
