Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Khalid al-Walibi narrates that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would offer condolences to someone, he would say: May Allah have mercy on him and grant you reward.

Hazrat Ash'ath narrates that when Hazrat Shumr would offer condolences to someone, he would say, "Be patient before the command of your Lord."

Hazrat Dawud bin Nafiz narrates that I asked Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Ubaid, "How did these two personalities (Ibn Zubair and Ubaid bin Umayyah) offer comfort and consolation?" He replied, "Both of them used to say: May Allah grant you the abode of the righteous, may forgiveness and mercy be from Him, may He make you among those who are guided, and may He grant you an abode (in the Hereafter) as He granted to the Prophets and the righteous."
