Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Zubair says that I asked Hazrat Jabir whether the funeral prayer should be offered for a woman who dies in the state of postnatal bleeding which was due to a sin. He replied: Offer the funeral prayer for every person who professes La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Nu’man that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the funeral prayer for a child born out of wedlock and his mother, who had died in the state of postnatal bleeding.

Hazrat Abu Ghalib narrates that I asked Hazrat Abu Umamah, "If a person dies after drinking alcohol, should his funeral prayer be performed?" He replied, "Yes, perhaps he recited 'La ilaha illallah' while lying on his bed; because of this, he may be forgiven."

Ibrahim says that the funeral prayer will be performed for a person who commits suicide, or for a woman who dies in the state of postnatal bleeding which was due to adultery, or for a person who dies while drinking alcohol.

Hazrat Zabraqan al-Siraj narrates that Hazrat Abu Wa'il led the funeral prayer of a woman. I said, "This woman was associated with evil." He replied, "I have performed the funeral prayer of one who used to pray facing the Qiblah (was a Muslim)."

Hazrat Ata says that whoever prays facing your Qibla (no matter how he is), his funeral will be attended.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that I do not know of any among the people of knowledge and the Tabi'in who abandoned the funeral prayer of the people of the Qiblah considering them sinful.

Hazrat Asim says that I asked Hasan, "My Khariji neighbor has passed away. Can I participate in his funeral?" He replied, "Did he used to rebel against the Muslims?" I said, "No." He said, "Then go to his funeral; action is more important than opinion."

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah that one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was wounded, which caused him great pain, so he reached for the edge of his sword and killed himself with its blade. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform his funeral prayer. Hazrat Abu Ja'far says that I also refrained from his funeral prayer in order to learn etiquette from him.

Hazrat Imran narrates that I asked Ibrahim Nakha'i whether the funeral prayer should be performed for a person who has committed suicide. He replied, "Yes, the funeral prayer is Sunnah."
