Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Qilabah says: By Allah! It is an innovation for people to stand at the grave from the completion of the funeral prayer until the burial.

Hazrat Ibn Aun narrates that I asked Hazrat Sha’bi about standing for a funeral until it is placed in the grave (what is the ruling?). He replied, “I have not seen anyone doing this except Abu Marhoom, who was from Syria, and people used to laugh at him.”

Hazrat Mughira narrates that Ibrahim disliked standing by the grave.

Hazrat Ibn Aun narrates that I asked Hazrat Sha’bi about standing for the funeral before it is placed (for burial), but it seemed as if he had no knowledge about it (he was not aware of it at all). Then I mentioned this to Hazrat Mujahid; he said: This is when the funeral prayer has been offered, so one should not sit before the burial.
