Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Bakr narrates that Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), after leveling the soil over the deceased following burial, would stand over it and supplicate: "O Allah, if he was a doer of good, then double his good deeds (or he would say) increase his good deeds, and if he was a wrongdoer, then pardon him."

Hazrat Umair bin Saeed narrates that Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) led the funeral prayer of Hazrat Yazid and recited four takbeers, then recited this supplication: "O Allah! Your servant and the son of Your servant has come to You today, and You are the best to whom one comes. O Allah, expand his place of entry and forgive his sins, for we know nothing but good about him, and You know him better."

Hazrat Ibn Abi Mulaikah narrates that when they finished burying Hazrat Abdullah bin Sa’ib, Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) stood by the grave for a while, then made supplication, and then returned.

Hazrat Khalid bin Sameer narrates that I was with Hazrat Ahnaf at the funeral of Hazrat Dhirar bin Qaqa’ al-Tamimi. Hazrat Ahnaf sat down, so I also sat down with him. I saw Hazrat Ahnaf standing at the edge of the grave and, before making supplication, he praised Allah with these words: “By Allah, I did not know in this way; by Allah, I did not know in this way.” Then he prayed for him.

Hazrat Umair bin Saeed narrates that I offered the funeral prayer of Hazrat Yazid bin Al-Mukaffaf with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He recited four takbeers over him. Then, walking with the funeral, when he reached the grave, he supplicated as follows: "O Allah! Your servant and the son of Your servant has come to You today, so forgive his sins and widen his entrance. We know nothing but good about him, and You know him better." "O Allah! Your servant and the son of Your servant has come to You today, so forgive his sins and make his grave spacious. We know only good about him, and You know him better."

Ibn 'Ulayyah narrates that I saw Ayyub standing by the grave, supplicating for the deceased, and sometimes I saw him supplicating for the deceased after placing him in the grave, before coming out of the grave.
