Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim says that the funeral prayer for a child will not be performed until he has cried.

It is narrated from Ibrahim in the same manner.

Hazrat Amr bin Murrah narrates that I heard Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair say: The funeral prayer of a child will not be performed.

Hazrat Usman bin Jahash narrates that I heard Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub say, when his young son passed away, he said: Take him and bury him, the funeral prayer will not be offered for him because there is no sin upon him. Pray to Allah Almighty for forgiveness for his parents, that He may make this child a means of forgiveness and an intercessor for them.

Hazrat Zuhri says that the funeral prayer of a newborn will not be performed, nor will he be made an heir until he cries.

Hazrat Hakam and Hazrat Hammad were asked whether the funeral prayer should be performed for a fetus if it is born dead? They replied, "No."

Hazrat Alaa bin Musayyib narrates from his father that funeral prayer will not be offered for a fetus, nor will it be an heir.

Hazrat Jabir says: When a child cries after birth, his funeral prayer will be performed and he will be an heir; and if he does not cry, then neither will the funeral prayer be performed nor will he be an heir.

It is also narrated in the same way from Imam Sha'bi.

Hasan says that the funeral prayer will not be performed for a fetus.

Hazrat Mak'hool narrates that when Hazrat Zubair's young child passed away, he did not offer the funeral prayer for him.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib says: A child will not be an heir until he cries after birth.

Hazrat Suwaid bin Ghaflah narrates that we did not use to perform the funeral prayer for a newborn.

It is narrated in the same manner from Hazrat Suwaid.
