Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The funeral prayer of a child will be performed.

Hazrat Nafi' states that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) offered the funeral prayer for a fetus. Hazrat Nafi' says that I do not know whether it (at the time of birth) was alive or dead.

Hazrat Abu Bakr says that among those whose funeral prayer we perform, our children are the most deserving.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib says: When the creation of the child is completed and the soul is breathed into it, then its funeral prayer will be performed.

Hazrat Saeed narrates that Hazrat Abu Hurairah led the funeral prayer of a newborn child who had not committed any sin, (and while supplicating in it, he said) O Allah! Protect him from the punishment of the grave.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that when the creation of the fetus is completed, its name should also be given and its funeral prayer should be performed just as it is done for an adult.

Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah narrates that the funeral prayer will be offered for a miscarried fetus, in which forgiveness will be sought for its parents. A narrator, Yunus, says that Ahl Ziyad has transmitted this as a marfu’ (attributed to the Prophet), but I have not preserved it in this way.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila says: We did not leave any of our children (unburied) without offering the funeral prayer for them.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that the funeral prayer for a child should be performed in the same manner as for an adult.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that offer the funeral prayer for the fetus and give it a name because it was born on the nature of Islam.

Hazrat Amr bin Murrah says that I asked Hazrat Ibn Sirin about this. He replied: I found the Ansar that they used to offer the funeral prayer for their children.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib, regarding the fetus that is born dead, states that when the soul has been breathed into it, the funeral prayer will be offered for it, and the soul is breathed in at four months.

Hazrat Khalid Al-Ahdab narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) was asked about the funeral prayer for children. He replied, "I prefer more to offer the funeral prayer for one who has no sin."
