Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that when the funeral of a man and a woman are together, the head of the woman's body should be placed near the shoulders of the man, then the imam will stand at the head of the woman and at the middle (chest) of the man.

Hazrat Amr bin Muhajir narrates that I offered sixty funeral prayers for men and women with Hazrat Wasila bin Asqa during the time of plague. Two rows were formed for all of them. The row of women was in front of the men, the head of each woman's bier was at the feet of her companion (woman), and the head of each man's bier was at the feet of his companion (man).

Hazrat Habib bin Abi Thabit narrates that Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair came to the people of Makkah. They used to place the funeral of a man and a woman side by side (placing their heads and feet) and perform the funeral prayer. Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair informed them that they should place the woman's head in line with the middle of the man.

Ibrahim was asked: If there are several men and women in a funeral, what should be done? He replied: Their heads should be aligned, and there will be two rows between the imam and the qiblah.

Hazrat Sha'bi also narrates similarly to Ibrahim.

Hazrat Dawood says that I heard from Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib in the same way.

Hazrat Sulaiman bin Musa says that Hazrat Wasila bin Asqa‘ would place the heads of men near the knees of women.

Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib says that preference will be given to the man's head. (The man's head will be placed forward.)
