Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: He is not from among us who strikes his cheeks, tears his collar, and calls out with the call of ignorance (like the ignorant).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He is not from among us who strikes faces, tears collars, and calls out like the ignorant.

Hazrat Iyad Ash'ari narrates that when Hazrat Abu Musa fell unconscious, his wife began to scream. When he regained consciousness, he said to his wife, "Do you not know what I had told you?" She says that when he passed away, she did not wail over him. We asked, "What did Abu Musa say to you?" The wife replied, "He said: He is not from among us who strikes the cheeks (face), tears the collar, or cries out loudly."

Hazrat Qarsa’ah narrates that when life became burdensome for Hazrat Abu Musa, his wife began to scream. He said to her, “Do you not know what the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has said?” She replied, “Of course I do,” and then became silent. Later, she was asked what the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. She replied, “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has cursed the one who tears the collar, strikes the neck or face, and screams and wails.”

Hazrat Shaqiq narrates that when Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed passed away, the women of Banu Mughira gathered and began to weep. People said to Hazrat Umar, "Send a message to them and forbid them from this. Has that thing not reached you from their side which is disliked!" Hazrat Umar replied, "There is no sin in the shedding of tears which they are shedding for Abu Sulaiman, as long as they do not throw dust on their heads and do not wail and cry out excessively."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed those who scratch faces and tear collars.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade us from wailing over calamities, scratching faces, tearing collars, and screaming and shouting like Satan.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He is not from among us who tears his collar, wails and screams, and strikes his face or cheeks.
