Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hubaira that a mount was brought for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, at a funeral, but he did not mount it. Then, when he returned, he mounted it.

Ibrahim narrates that I asked Alqamah, "Is it disliked to walk behind a funeral procession?" He replied, "No, rather it is disliked to walk in front of it."

Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Those who go to a funeral riding (on animals or vehicles), if they knew how much reward there is for those who walk on foot, they would not ride.

Hazrat Rashid bin Sa’d narrates that Hazrat Thawban saw a man riding at a funeral, so he held the reins of his mount and stopped him, and said: “You are riding while the servants of Allah are walking on foot.”

Ibrahim says that the Companions disliked that someone should ride ahead of the funeral procession.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that the one who goes to a funeral while riding is like the one who sits at home.

Ibn Aun states that Hasan and Ibn Sirin used to not walk in front of the funeral procession.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: The one who goes to a funeral while riding is like the one who sits at home.
