The Shroud Should Be White, Though Other Colors Are Also Permitted
Hadith 11452
١١٤٥٢ - حدثنا إسماعيل بن علية عن أيوب عن أبي قلابة عن سمرة بن جندب قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "عليكم بالثياب البياض فليلبسها أحياؤكم وكفنوا فيها موتاكم" (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub that the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Adhere to wearing white clothes, let your living wear them and shroud your dead in them.
Hadith 11453
١١٤٥٣ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن (حبيب) (١) بن أبي ثابت عن ميمون بن أبي شبيب عن سمرة بن جندب قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "البسوا الثياب البيض وكفنوا فيها موتاكم" (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Samurah bin Jundub that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wear white clothes, and shroud your dead in them.
Hadith 11454
١١٤٥٤ - حدثنا يحيى بن آدم عن سفيان عن (ابن) (١) (خثيم) (٢) عن سعيد بن جبير عن ابن عباس قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "خير ثيابكم البياض" (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among your best clothes is the white garment.
Hadith 11455
١١٤٥٥ - حدثنا معاذ بن معاذ عن (الأشعث) (١) عن الحسن ومحمد أنهما قالا: لا بأس أن يكفن الرجل في الثوب الهروي.
Hasan and Muhammad state that there is no harm in shrouding a man in any cloth (with a yellowish tint).
Hadith 11456
١١٤٥٦ - حدثنا شبابة بن سوار عن ابن أبي ذئب عن الوليد بن عمرو (عن) (١) أبي (الحويرث) (٢) أن امرأة عروسًا دخلت على زوجها وعليها ثياب معصفرة فماتت ⦗٥١٤⦘ حين أدخلت عليه (فسئلت) (٣) عائشة فقالت: ادفنوها في ثيابها التي كانت عليها (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu al-Huwairith that a woman got married, and she came to her husband wearing yellowish clothes, and she passed away that very day. Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was asked about this matter, and she said: "Bury her in the clothes she is wearing."
