Perfuming the Shroud an Odd Number of Times
Hadith 11441
١١٤٤١ - حدثنا عبد اللَّه بن إدريس عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم قال: (تجمر) (١) ثيابه ثلاثًا.
Ibrahim said that the deceased's clothes will be fumigated an odd number of times.
Hadith 11442
١١٤٤٢ - حدثنا محمد بن فضيل عن الحسن (بن) (١) عبيد (اللَّه) (٢) عن إبراهيم قال: (تجمر) (٣) ثيابه وترًا.
Ibrahim says that incense will be applied to the deceased's clothes an odd number of times.
Hadith 11443
١١٤٤٣ - حدثنا عبد الأعلى عن هشام عن الحسن وابن سيرين أنهما كانا (يجمران) (١) ثياب الميت وترًا.
Hasan and Hazrat Ibn Sirin state that the deceased's clothes should be fumigated an odd number of times.
Hadith 11444
١١٤٤٤ - حدثنا أبو معاوية وعلي بن مسهر عن عاصم عن الشعبي قال: (تجمر) (١) ثياب الميت وترًا، إلا (أن) (٢) ابن مسهر قال: ما شئت.
Imam Shabi states that incense should be applied to the shroud of the deceased an odd number of times, whereas Ibn Masher states that you may apply incense as many times as you wish.
Hadith 11445
١١٤٤٥ - حدثنا أبو داود الطيالسي عن حماد بن سلمة عن حميد عن الحسن ⦗٥١١⦘ عن أبي هريرة قال: (يجمر) (١) الميت وترًا (٢).
Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the shroud of the deceased should be perfumed an odd number of times.
Hadith 11446
١١٤٤٦ - حدثنا وكيع عن شعبة عن حماد عن إبراهيم قال: كان أصحاب عبد اللَّه يقولون: (غسله) (١) (وترًا) (٢) (وتجمره) (٣) وثيابه.
Ibrahim narrates that the companions of Abdullah say: The deceased should be washed an odd number of times, and their clothes should be perfumed with incense an odd number of times.
Hadith 11447
١١٤٤٧ - حدثنا أبو داود عن أبي (حرة) (١) عن الحسن قال: يجمر الميت وترًا.
Hasan Irshad says that the deceased will be given incense an odd number of times.
Hadith 11448
١١٤٤٨ - حدثنا يحيى بن آدم قال: (حدثنا) (١) (قطبة) (٢) بن (عبد العزيز) (٣) عن الأعمش عن (أبي) (٤) سفيان عن جابر قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إذا (أجمرتم) (٥) الميت (فاجمروه) (٦) ثلاثًا" (٧).
It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you perfume the deceased with incense, do so three times.
