Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Aswad narrates that I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), "Can the head of the deceased be washed with khatmi (a type of plant)?" She replied, "Do not unnecessarily expose your dead (men)."

Ibrahim says that if you do not have lote tree leaves to bathe the deceased, then there is no harm or problem.

Muhammad says that (the Companions) did not use marsh mallow for bathing when they had access to lote tree leaves.

Hasan says that I will bathe the deceased with lotus leaves, and if I do not find them, then I will bathe with marshmallow, and if marshmallow is also not available, then I will bathe with the leaves of soapwort.

Hazrat Abu Qilabah says that when a patient's illness becomes prolonged, he should be bathed with the leaves of the ashnan plant.

Hazrat Dahhak says: Do not bathe me with the leaves of the berry tree.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that if lotus leaves are not available for bathing the deceased, then bathe with marsh mallow.
