Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Atiyyah that when giving ghusl to her son, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Start with his right side and the parts of the body washed in wudu.

It is narrated from Ayyub that Imam Muhammad was asked about giving ghusl (ritual washing) to the deceased, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The right side and the places of wudu (ablution) should be started with.

Ibrahim says, when giving ghusl to the deceased, perform the ablution (wudu) as is done for prayer, then begin washing from the right side.

Ibrahim says that when giving ghusl to the deceased, the washing should be started with the ablution of prayer.

Ibrahim says that the deceased will be given ablution like that of prayer, but his feet will not be washed.

Hazrat Abu Qilabah says: The deceased should be given the ablution (wudu) as is done for prayer.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair states that the deceased should be given ablution like that of prayer, but water should not be put into the mouth and nose.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin states that the deceased should be given ablution just as the living perform ablution.

Hasan and Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib say that the deceased should be given ablution like that of prayer.

Hazrat Usman bin Aswad narrates that we were giving ghusl (ritual washing) to a deceased person when Hazrat Mujahid came to us and said: Perform for him the same wudu (ablution) as is done for prayer.
