Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Yahya bin Rashid Al-Basri that when the time of Hazrat Umar's death approached, he said to his son: When I pass away, turn my face towards the Qiblah.

Ibrahim says that the Companions used to like that the face of the deceased be turned towards the Qiblah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ash'ath that Hasan liked that the face of the dying person be turned towards the Qiblah.

Hazrat Ibn Jurayj says that I asked Hazrat Ata whether it is recommended to turn the face of the deceased towards the Qiblah at the time of death. He replied, "Yes."

Hazrat Aamir says that if you wish, you may turn the face of the deceased towards the Qiblah, and if you do not wish, then do not do so (there is no harm).

It is narrated from Hazrat Ismail bin Umayyah that Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib disliked this and used to say: "Is the deceased not a Muslim?"

Hazrat Rabi’ bin Hirash narrates that on the night Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, Hazrat Abu Mas’ud came to him. He said, “Move aside, surely your night will be long.” Then he embraced him to his chest, which gave him some relief. He asked, “What time is it?” The people replied, “It is the time of suhoor (pre-dawn meal).” Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “O Allah! I seek refuge in You from coming upon the Fire in the morning or in the evening.” Then we laid him on his side, and he entrusted his soul to the Creator.

Hazrat Zur’ah bin Abdur Rahman narrates that I was present during the illness of Hazrat Sa’eed bin Al-Musayyib, and Hazrat Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman was sitting beside him. Hazrat Sa’eed bin Al-Musayyib fell unconscious, so Hazrat Abu Salamah ordered that Hazrat Sa’eed’s bed be turned towards the Qiblah, due to which he regained consciousness. Hazrat Sa’eed asked, “Did you turn my bed?” The people replied, “Yes.” Hazrat Sa’eed looked towards Hazrat Abu Salamah and said, “I think this was your doing?” He replied, “Yes, I was the one who told them.” Hazrat Sa’eed then ordered his bed to be turned back to its original direction.
