Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ziyad bin Abu Maryam narrates from his mother that his mother went to Hazrat Abdullah bin Arqam. He was the custodian of the treasury (Bait-ul-Mal) during the leadership of Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Uthman. And he was distributing charity (zakat) among the people of Madinah. When he saw me, he said: O Umm Ziyad, why have you come here? So I replied that I have come for the same purpose as the others have come. He asked: Are you free? I replied: No. So he sent someone home who brought a sheet. He gave that to me. But he did not give anything from the charity (zakat), because at that time I was a slave.
