قوله (تعالى): ﴿ويمنعون الماعون﴾
Explanation of Allah's Statement: {And they withhold al-ma'un} (i.e., do not pay Zakah)
Hadith 10923
١٠٩٢٣ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم ⦗٣٦٤⦘ التيمي عن (الحارث بن سويد) (١) عن عبد اللَّه ﴿وَيَمْنَعُونَ الْمَاعُونَ﴾ [الماعون: ٧]، قال: هو ما (تعاون) (٢) الناس بينهم الفأس والقدر والدلو وأشباهه (٣).
Hazrat Abdullah says that its application is to those people who do not even lend things to others.
Hadith 10924
١٠٩٢٤ - حدثنا ابن إدريس عن الأعمش عن الحكم عن يحيى بن (الجزار) (١) عن أبي (العُبيدين) (٢) عن عبد اللَّه قال: هو ما (تعاور) (٣) الناس بينهم (٤).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that by the command of Allah Almighty { وَیَمْنَعُونَ الْمَاعُونَ } is meant the obligatory Zakat, and Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that it refers to borrowed items.
Hadith 10925
١٠٩٢٥ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن ابن أبي نجيح عن مجاهد عن علي: ﴿وَيَمْنَعُونَ الْمَاعُونَ﴾ [الماعون: ٧]، قال: الزكاة المفروضة (١).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the meaning of al-Ma'un is zakat.
Hadith 10927
١٠٩٢٧ - حدثنا ابن إدريس عن شعبة عن الحكم عن مجاهد عن علي قال الماعون الزكاة (١).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the wealth whose due right has not been fulfilled.
Hadith 10928
١٠٩٢٨ - حدثنا وكيع عن سعيد بن عبيد عن علي بن ربيعة عن ابن عمر قال: هو المال الذي لا (يعطى) (١) حقه (٢).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the wealth whose due right has not been fulfilled...
Hadith 10929
١٠٩٢٩ - حدثنا ابن إدريس عن سعيد بن عبيد عن علي بن (ربيعة) (١) عن ابن عمر قال: هو الذي لا يؤدي حقه (٢).
Hazrat Sa'd narrates from the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: "Al-Ma'un is not giving a spade, a cooking pot, or a bucket."
Hadith 10930
١٠٩٣٠ - حدثنا ابن مهدي عمن سفيان وغندر (عن) (١) شعبة عن أبي إسحاق عن (سعد) (٢) بن عياض عن أصحاب النبي ﷺ أنهم قالوا: (الماعون) منع الفأس والقدر والدلو (٣).
Hazrat Umm Atiyyah says that by this is meant a profession.
Hadith 10931
١٠٩٣١ - حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن جابر بن (صبح) (١) عن أم (شراحيل) (٢) عن أم عطية (قالت) (٣): (المهنة) (٤) (٥).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that "al-Ma'un" is not giving a spade, a cooking pot, and a bucket.
Hadith 10932
١٠٩٣٢ - حدثنا ابن علية عن ليث عن أبي إسحاق عن الحارث عن علي قال: (الماعون) منع الفأس والقدر والدلو (١).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that its people did not return after it.
Hadith 10933
١٠٩٣٣ - حدثنا ابن علية عن ليث عن مجاهد عن ابن عباس قال: لم (يجيء) (١) أهلها (بعد) (٢) (٣).
Ibrahim says that it refers to a cooking pot and a hand mill, and some people say that by it is meant a mattock.
Hadith 10934
١٠٩٣٤ - حدثنا جرير عن إبراهيم قال: القدر والرحى وقال بعضهم: (الفأس) (١) (٢).
Hazrat Dhahhak says that this refers to Zakat.
Hadith 10935
١٠٩٣٥ - حدثنا وكيع عن سلمة بن (نبيط) (١) عن الضحاك قال: الزكاة.
Hazrat Abdullah says that by this are meant a cooking pot and a bucket.
Hadith 10936
١٠٩٣٦ - حدثنا وكيع عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم التيمي عن الحارث عن عبد اللَّه قال: القدر والدلو (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah in similar words.
Hadith 10938
١٠٩٣٨ - حدثنا وكيع (عن عبد اللَّه) (١) عن سفيان عن سلمة بن كهيل عن أبي المغيرة عن ابن عمر قال: هي الزكاة (٢).
A narration similar to that of Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) is also reported from Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Hadith 10939
١٠٩٣٩ - حدثنا وكيع عن الأعمش عن سعيد بن جبير عن ابن عباس مثل حديث ابن مسعود (١).
Hazrat Yahya bin Al-Jazzar narrates that Abu Al-Obaidain asked Hazrat Abdullah about "Al-Ma'oon." He replied that it refers to a pickaxe, a cooking pot, and a bucket.
Hadith 10940
١٠٩٤٠ - حدثنا وكيع عن الأعمش (عن الحكم) (١) عن يحيى بن (الجزار) (٢) ⦗٣٦٧⦘ أن أبا (العُبيدين) (٣) سأل عبد اللَّه عن (الماعون)، (قال) (٤): هو الفأس والقدر والدلو (٥).
It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn al-Hanafiyyah that by "al-Ma'un" is meant Zakat.
Hadith 10941
١٠٩٤١ - [حدثنا وكيع عن إسماعيل عن (أبي) (١) (عمر) (٢) عن يحيى (عن) (٣) ابن الحنفية قال: الماعون الزكاة] (٤).
Imam Zuhri says that in the language of the Quraysh, "al-Ma'un" means wealth.
Hadith 10942
١٠٩٤٢ - حدثنا وكيع عن ابن أبي ذئب عن الزهري قال: (الماعون) هو المال بلسان قريش.
Hazrat Bassam says that I asked Hazrat Ikrimah about Al-Ma'un. He replied that it is a spade, a cooking pot, and a bucket.
Hadith 10943
١٠٩٤٣ - حدثنا وكيع عن (بسام) (١) قال: سألت عكرمة عن (الماعون) فقال: الفأس والقدر والدلو.
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that by this is meant goods, and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that it refers to Zakat.
Hadith 10944
١٠٩٤٤ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن ابن أبي نجيح عن مجاهد عن ابن عباس قال: هو المتاع (١).
Imam Zuhri says that by "al-Ma'un" is meant the obligatory zakat.
Hadith 10946
١٠٩٤٦ - حدثنا عبد الأعلى عن معمر عن الزهري قال: (الماعون) الزكاة المفروضة.
Hazrat Ibn Abi Laila states that we measured the Sa’ of Madinah Munawwarah and found it to be greater in volume than the Sa’ of Hajjaji (the Sa’ of Hajjaj bin Yusuf).
