Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Sha'bi that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Hazrat Abdullah bin Rawaha to Yemen to estimate the dates for them. The narrator says that I asked Hazrat Sha'bi, "Did he do so?" He replied, "No."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Hazm that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would send an estimator, he would instruct him not to estimate those dates which the owner had given to a needy person.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Masood narrates that Hazrat Sahl bin Abu Hathmah came to our gathering and related to us a hadith of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you make an estimate, then take it and leave one third; if you do not find one third, then leave one fourth.

Hazrat Basheer bin Yasar narrates that Hazrat Umar Farooq sent Hazrat Abu Khaythama to estimate the dates, and said to him: When you come to the people of the house within their four walls, do not estimate the amount they consume.

Hazrat Jabir narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Rawaha estimated the dates of Khaybar to be forty thousand wasq. Hazrat Jabir thought that when Ibn Rawaha gave the Jews the option, they took the dates and twenty thousand wasq became obligatory upon them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mak'hool that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Be lenient in estimating for the people. Surely, among people's wealth, there are some dates for the needy and some that have fallen, which people trample upon.

It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed Hazrat Attab bin Asid to estimate the yield of grapes just as the yield of dates is estimated. Then, the zakat should be paid from raisins, just as the zakat of dates is paid from dried dates. This was the practice of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding dates and grapes.

Hazrat Amr bin Dinar says that the estimation will be made for dates and grapes, but the estimation will not be made for grains.
