Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Iraq says that I heard from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: There is no zakat on a Muslim for his slave and his horse.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no zakat on a Muslim for his slave, his horse, and his bondwoman.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no zakat on a Muslim's horse and slave.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in a marfu’ form that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, the zakat on horses and slaves has been forgiven for you.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The zakat on horses and slaves has been forgiven.

Hazrat Shabeel bin Auf, who had witnessed the era of ignorance, narrates: Hazrat Umar ordered the people to pay Zakat. So the people said, "O Commander of the Faithful, we also have horses and slaves; please make ten (units) obligatory on each for us." He replied, "I cannot make it obligatory upon you."

Hazrat Ibn Shihab states that Hazrat Uthman used to give zakat on horses, and Hazrat Saib bin Akht Numair states that he used to bring the zakat of horses to Hazrat Umar.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that there is no zakat on the horse of a warrior fighting in the way of Allah.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Dinar narrates that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib, "Is there zakat on horses of Arab breed?" He (astonished) replied, "What! Zakat on horses!!!"

Hazrat Abdullah bin Dinar narrates that I asked Hazrat Saeed bin Al-Musayyib whether there is zakat on horses of Arab breed. He replied (with astonishment), "Zakat on horses?" He said this sentence twice.

Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz says that there is no Zakat on horses.

Hazrat Mak’hool states that there is no Zakat on horses and slaves.

Hazrat Ata says that there is no Zakat on grazing horses.

Hazrat Ajlah says that I asked Hazrat Sha’bi about the zakat on horses and slaves, so he replied that there is no zakat on them.

Hazrat Mughira states that Ibrahim did not consider Sadaqat al-Fitr obligatory upon slaves who were for trade, but (he used to say that) their value would be assessed and Zakat would be paid on that value.

It is narrated in the same way from Hasan as well.

Hasan says that there is no zakat on (non-Arab) horses, non-Arab bred horses, and likewise on donkeys.

Hazrat Ata says that there is no Sadaqat al-Fitr (obligatory charity of breaking the fast) on a slave who is for trade.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that there is no zakat on livestock and slaves until they are for trade (if they are for trade, then zakat is obligatory).

Hazrat Hakam states that there is no Zakat on horses.
