Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to observe continuous fasting (Saum Wisal). Upon this, we also started to observe continuous fasting. When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he said: If I wish, I can observe continuous fasting for a month, then those who are strict will abandon their strictness. I am not like you; my Lord gives me food and drink.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) observed continuous fasting (Saum Wisal). When people came to know of this, they also began to observe continuous fasting. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of this, he forbade the people from doing so and said, "I am not like you; my Lord gives me food and drink."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) observed continuous fasting (Saum-e-Wisal) in Ramadan, so the people also began to observe continuous fasting. He forbade the people from it, so someone said, "But you also observe continuous fasting?" He replied, "I am not like you; my Lord gives me food and drink."

Hazrat Abu Saeed narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade continuous fasting. My sister observes continuous fasting and I forbid her from it.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) observed continuous fasting until the time of suhoor.

Hazrat Ibn Abi Laila narrates from some of the Companions that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade continuous fasting and also forbade cupping while in the state of fasting. He issued this prohibition out of compassion for his Companions.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Qalabah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade continuous fasting (Saum Wisal). The companions said, "O Messenger of Allah! You also observe continuous fasting?" He replied, "I am not like you. When I spend the night, my Lord feeds me and gives me drink. If you must observe continuous fasting, then do so from one pre-dawn meal (suhoor) to the next."

Hasan narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade continuous fasting. So the people said, "But you also observe continuous fasting?" He replied, "I am not like you; my Lord gives me food and drink."

Hazrat Abu Hurairah says that I will never observe continuous fasting (without breaking the fast at sunset).

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that there is no wisal (continuous fasting without breaking) in fasting.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said three times: "Refrain from continuous fasting (Saum Wisal)." The people said, "But you also observe continuous fasting?" He replied, "I am not like you. I spend the night in such a state that my Lord feeds me and gives me drink. Undertake only those deeds for which you have the strength."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the meaning of the verse of the Holy Qur'an { ثُمَّ أَتِمُّوا الصِّیَامَ إلَی اللَّیْلِ } is that continuous fasting (without breaking the fast) is disliked.
