Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that once I was sleeping during Ramadan when a man came to me and said that tonight is Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power). I woke up from my sleep and, holding the rope of the tent of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I presented myself before him, and he was offering prayer. I estimated the night, and it was the twenty-third night of Ramadan. Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) says that Satan comes out with the sun every night except the Night of Power. That is why, on the day after Laylat al-Qadr, the sun rises white, without rays.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

Hazrat Sanabahi says that I asked Hazrat Bilal about the Night of Qadr, so he replied that it is the night of the twenty-third of Ramadan.

It is narrated from Hazrat Fultan bin Asim that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I had seen the Night of Qadr, then it was made to be forgotten by me. Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten (nights).

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) says that Laylat al-Qadr is in Ramadan.

Hazrat Abdullah says that seek the Night of Qadr in the twenty-third, twenty-first, and nineteenth nights of Ramadan. And seek the Night of Qadr in the morning of the fourteenth night. Because the sun rises every day between the two horns of Satan, except on the morning of the fourteenth, for on that day the sun is clear and has no rays.

Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b says that Laylat al-Qadr is the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan.

Hazrat Hoot Khuzai states that I asked Hazrat Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) about the Night of Qadr, so he replied that without any doubt, the Night of Qadr is the nineteenth night, which is the night of Furqan. This is the night in which two armies met each other.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakrah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan. Seek it on the twenty-first, twenty-third, twenty-fifth, twenty-seventh, or the last night.

Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b used to say that Laylat al-Qadr is the twenty-seventh night; this is the same night about which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said that on this night the sun rises white and bright.

Hasan says that Laylat al-Qadr occurs in every Ramadan.

Hazrat Abu Qalabah says that Laylat al-Qadr moves among all the nights of the last ten days.

Hazrat Zir bin Hubaish narrates that when it is the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan, perform ghusl (ritual bath). On this night, if any of you can delay your iftar (breaking of the fast) until suhoor (pre-dawn meal), then do so, and he should also break his fast on that day with lassi (a yogurt-based drink).

Hazrat Muawiyah says that Laylat al-Qadr is the twenty-third night.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The Night of Qadr was shown to me, then it was made to be forgotten. Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten (nights)."

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to wake up her family on the twenty-third night of Ramadan.

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Abi Yazid narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) used to sprinkle water on his family members on the twenty-third night of Ramadan.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seek the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

Hasan says that Laylat al-Qadr is a bright and radiant night, in which the sun rises without rays.
