Those Who Consider Cupping While Fasting Disliked
Hadith 9547
٩٥٤٧ - حدثنا محمد بن فضيل عن عطاء بن السائب قال: شهد عندي نفر من أهل البصرة (منهم) (١) الحسن بن أبي الحسن (البصري) (٢) (على) (٣) معقل بن (سنان) (٤) الأشجعي قال: مرّ عليّ رسول اللَّه ﷺ وأنا أحتجم في ثمان عشرة من رمضان فقال: "أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم" (٥).
Hazrat Ma'qil bin Sinan says that once, on the eighteenth of Ramadan, I was having cupping done when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the one who performs cupping and the one who gets it done, both have broken their fast.
Hadith 9548
٩٥٤٨ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: (أخبرنا) (١) (٢) عاصم (الأحول) (٣) عن عبد اللَّه بن زيد وهو أبو قلابة عن أبي الأشعث الصنعاني عن أبي أسماء (الرحبي) (٤) عن شداد بن أوس قال: مررت مع رسول اللَّه ﷺ في ثمان عشرة خلت من رمضان فأبصر رجلًا احتجم فقال: رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم" (٥).
Hazrat Shaddad bin Aws narrates that on the eighteenth of Ramadan, I passed by a man in the company of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who was having cupping done. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that both the one who is cupping and the one who is being cupped have broken their fast.
Hadith 9549
٩٥٤٩ - حدثنا ابن فضيل عن داود بن أبي هند عن عبد اللَّه بن (زيد) (١) (عن أبي الأشعث) (٢) عن أبي أسماء الرحبي عن شداد بن أوس عن النبي (ﷺ) مثله (٣).
It is narrated similarly through another chain of transmission.
Hadith 9550
٩٥٥٠ - حدثنا ابن علية عن أيوب عن أبي قلابة عمن حدثه عن شداد بن أوس قال: أتى (النبي) (١) (ﷺ) على رجل يحتجم بالبقيع وهو آخذ بيدي لثمان عشرة خلت من رمضان فقال: "أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم" (٢).
Hazrat Shaddad bin Aws narrates that the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, holding my hand, passed by a man in Jannat al-Baqi' on the eighteenth of Ramadan who was having cupping done. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said that both the one performing cupping and the one having it done have broken their fast.
Hadith 9551
٩٥٥١ - حدثنا ابن علية عن ابن جريج عن مكحول قال: أخبرني رجل من ⦗٨⦘ الحي مصدق عن ثوبان أن رسول اللَّه ﷺ قال: "أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم" (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Thawban that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The fast of both the one who applies cupping and the one to whom it is applied is broken.
Hadith 9552
٩٥٥٢ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: (أخبرنا) (١) أيوب أبو العلاء عن قتادة عن شهر بن حوشب عن بلال قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم" (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Bilal that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The one who applies cupping and the one to whom it is applied, both their fasts are broken.
Hadith 9553
٩٥٥٣ - [حدثنا عبد الوهاب الثقفي عن يونس عن الحسن عن أبي هريرة (١) أن (النبي) (٢) ﷺ قال: "أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم] (٣) " (٤).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The one who applies cupping and the one to whom it is applied, both have their fast broken.
Hadith 9554
٩٥٥٤ - [حدثنا ابن علية عن ابن جريج عن عطاء قال: قال أبو هريرة: أن النبي ﷺ قال: "أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم] (١) " (٢).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The one who applies cupping and the one who gets it applied, both have broken their fast.
Hadith 9555
٩٥٥٥ - حدثنا ابن علية عن ابن أبي عروبة عن مطر عن الحسن قال: قال (عليّ) (١): أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم (٢).
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the one who applies cupping and the one to whom it is applied, both have their fast broken.
Hadith 9556
٩٥٥٦ - حدثنا ابن علية عن ابن عون عن محمد قال: يكره للحاجم والمحجوم.
Muhammad says that cupping and having cupping done while fasting are disliked.
Hadith 9557
٩٥٥٧ - حدثنا محمد بن أبي عدي عن حميد عن (بكر) (١) عن أبي العالية قال: دخلت على أبي موسى وهو أمير البصرة ممسيًا فوجدته يأكل تمرًا و (كامخًا) (٢) وقد احتجم فقلت له: ألا تحتجم بنهار؟ فقال: أتأرني أن أهريق دمي وأنا صائم؟ (٣).
Hazrat Abu Alia says that when Hazrat Abu Musa was the governor of Basra, I visited him one evening; he was eating dates and some curry, and he had undergone cupping. I asked him, "Why did you not have cupping done during the day?" He replied, "Do you command me to shed my blood while I am fasting?"
Hadith 9558
٩٥٥٨ - حدثنا غندر عن شعبة عن أبي بشر عن طلق بن أبي حبيب قال: أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم.
Hazrat Talq bin Habib says that the one who applies cupping and the one to whom it is applied, both have their fast broken.
Hadith 9559
٩٥٥٩ - حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن أبي الضحى عن مسروق قال: لا يحتجم الصائم.
Hazrat Masrooq says that a fasting person should not get cupped.
Hadith 9560
٩٥٦٠ - حدثنا الحسن بن موسى عن شيبان (عن ليث) (١) عن عطاء عن عائشة قالت: أفطر الحاجم والمحجوم (٢).
Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the one who applies cupping and the one to whom it is applied, both have their fast broken.
Hadith 9561
٩٥٦١ - حدثنا يحيى بن يعلى عن منصور عن مسلم عن مسروق قال: لا يحتجم الصائم.
Hazrat Masrooq says that a fasting person should not get cupped.
