Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abi Uthman narrates that I saw Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) wetting a cloth and placing it over himself while he was fasting.

Ibrahim considered it disliked for a fasting person to wet his bed with water and then sleep on it.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin considers it permissible for a fasting person to wet a cloth and place it over himself.

Hazrat Usman bin Abi Al-Aas used to pour water over himself on the day of Arafah to find relief.

Hazrat Hasan bin Ubaidullah narrates that I saw Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Aswad placing his feet in water while he was fasting.

Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman bin Harith narrates from a companion that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pour water over his blessed head while fasting on a hot day.

Ibrahim says that it was considered undesirable for a person to wet a cloth and put it over himself while fasting.
