Those Who Frequently Fasted and Encouraged It
Hadith 9149
٩١٤٩ - حدثنا عبد الوهاب الثقفي عن حميد عن أنس أن أبا طلحة كان (يكثر) (١) الصوم على عهد رسول اللَّه ﷺ وكان لا (يفطر) (٢) بعده إلا من وجع (٣).
Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Talha used to fast frequently during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and after the passing of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would not miss a fast except due to illness.
Hadith 9150
٩١٥٠ - حدثنا عبد الوهاب عن أيوب عن نافع عن ابن عمر أنه كان لا يكاد يفطر في الحضر إلا أن يمرض (١).
Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to break the fast during residence only in the case of illness.
Hadith 9151
٩١٥١ - حدثنا أبو داود الطيالسي عن (قرة) (١) عن (سعد) (٢) بن إبراهيم قال: كان ممن يكثر الصوم ابن عمر وعائشة وسعيد بن المسيب (٣).
Hazrat Sa’d bin Ibrahim states that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and Hazrat Sa’eed bin Musayyib used to fast frequently.
Hadith 9152
٩١٥٢ - حدثنا عبدة بن سليمان عن عبيد اللَّه بن عمر عن نافع عن ابن عمر أن عمر سرد الصوم قبل موته بسنتين (١).
Hazrat Nafi' states that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) continuously fasted for two years before his death.
Hadith 9153
٩١٥٣ - حدثنا ابن مبارك عن موسى بن عبيدة عن (جمهان) (١) عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "لكل شيء زكاة وزكاةُ (الجسد) (٢) الصومُ" (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Everything has a purification, and the purification of the body is in fasting."
