Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Harith bin Barza says that Hazrat Khubaib was brought and sold in Makkah. When the polytheists took him out of the Haram to kill him, he said, "Let me perform two rak'ahs (units of prayer)." The polytheists allowed him, so he performed two rak'ahs. Then he said, "If I had not feared that you would say I prolonged the prayer out of fear of death, I would have performed an even longer prayer."

Muhammad says that when Hujr ibn ‘Adi was brought to Mu‘awiyah, Mu‘awiyah said, "O Commander of the Faithful! Peace be upon you!" Mu‘awiyah replied, "Am I the Commander of the Faithful?" He said, "Yes." Mu‘awiyah said, "Even so, I will kill you." Then he ordered Hujr ibn ‘Adi to be killed. Hujr said, "Allow me to perform two rak‘ahs (units) of prayer." Upon being granted permission, he performed two brief rak‘ahs and then said, "Do not think about me that I shortened the prayer out of fear; rather, I dislike that I should prolong the prayer in your presence." Then he was killed.
