Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeating this verse until morning: If You punish them, they are Your servants; and if You forgive them, then surely You are the Mighty, the Wise.

Hazrat Saeed bin Ubaid Tai says that once in the month of Ramadan, Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair was repeating this verse while praying: "Soon they will know when there will be collars and chains around their necks and they will be dragged, that is, in boiling water, then they will be thrown into the fire."

Hazrat Masrooq narrates that Hazrat Tamim Dari repeatedly recited this verse { أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِینَ اجْتَرَحُوا السَّیِّئَاتِ أَنْ نَجْعَلَہُمْ کَاَلَّذِینَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ سَوَائً مَحْیَاہُمْ وَمَمَاتُہُمْ }: Do those who commit evil deeds think that We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds, so that their life and death will be the same?

Hazrat Naseer bin Abi Tu'mah says that when Hazrat Rabee' bin Khuthaym, while praying, reached this verse: "Do those who do evil deeds think that We will make them like those who believe and do righteous deeds, and that their life and death will be the same?" he kept repeating it until morning.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mughaffal narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) kept reciting Surah Al-Fath repeatedly on his mount during the year of the conquest of Makkah. Hazrat Muawiyah bin Qurrah says that if I did not fear people gathering, I would have shown you the manner of recitation.

Hazrat Aswad says that the predecessors liked to recite a single verse repeatedly during the last part of the night.

Ibrahim says that there is no harm if a person stops at one verse and recites it repeatedly.
