Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim narrates that Hazrat Aswad and his companions, while on a journey, would make a separate stop for each prayer, and would offer Maghrib at its prescribed time, then have their evening meal, then wait for a while, and then perform the Isha prayer.

Hazrat Abi bin Abdullah says that we received a letter from Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz in which he wrote that do not combine two prayers without a valid excuse.

Yunus says that Hasan was asked about combining two prayers, so he replied that it is not permissible to do so except due to an excuse.

Ibrahim narrates that Hazrat Aswad would make a separate stop for every prayer, even if he had to pray on a stone.

Hazrat Ammarah says that Hazrat Aswad was indeed a monk; whenever the time for prayer came, he would set up camp, even if he had to pray on a stone.

Hazrat Abu Musa says that combining two prayers without a valid excuse is among the major sins.

Hazrat Umar says that combining two prayers without a valid excuse is among the major sins.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Muheb says that I came to Hazrat Salim and asked him, "O Abu Umar! Do you combine two prayers while traveling?" He replied, "No, but if I am in a hurry to travel, then I do."

It was mentioned before Hazrat Muhammad bin Sirin that Hazrat Jabir bin Zaid used to combine two prayers. He said that he must have combined two prayers for some reason.

Hasan and Muhammad say that in our opinion, combining two prayers during travel or at home is not part of the religion. However, at Arafat, Zuhr and Asr prayers will be combined, and at Muzdalifah, Maghrib and Isha prayers will be combined.
