Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the time for prayer comes and food is served at the same time, then eat the food first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When food is served and at the same time the time for prayer arrives, then eat the food first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When food arrives and at the same time the time for prayer comes, then eat the food first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When food is placed before you and the prayer is established, then eat the food first and do not hurry in finishing the meal. Hazrat Nafi' says that when food was placed before Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and the prayer was established on the other side, he would not go for the prayer until he had finished eating, even though during this time he could hear the recitation of the Imam.

It is narrated from the father of Hazrat Iyas bin Salamah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When the time for prayer comes and food is served on the other side, then eat the food first.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When food is served and at the same time the time for prayer comes, then eat the food first.

It is narrated similarly through another chain, but in it this statement is not attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Qalabah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When food arrives and at the same time the time for prayer comes, then eat the food first.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once we were eating food when the time for prayer arrived. Hazrat Abu Talha kept me back to eat.

Hazrat Abu Mulaeeh narrates that we were with Hazrat Abu Bakr, and he was about to leave for the Maghrib prayer, and the muezzin had already given the call to prayer. Meanwhile, a bowl of tharid and meat was brought. He said, "Sit and eat it, because food is made so that it may be eaten." He also ate from it, then called for water, washed his hands with it, rinsed his mouth, and then performed the prayer.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Ubaidullah narrates that Hazrat Yasar bin Numair invited us for a meal at the time of Maghrib and said that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab used to say: "First eat food, then free yourselves for prayer."

Hazrat Umar says that when food is served and the time for prayer arrives, then eat the food first.

Hazrat Fanan bin Abdullah Nahmi narrates from his elders that they informed: We were with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when the time for iftar in Ramadan arrived. Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to us: First break your fast, for this is better for your prayer.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that offering prayer before eating drives away the reproaching soul.

Hazrat Ziyad says that we were with Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) and something was being roasted in his oven. Meanwhile, the time for prayer arrived and we asked his permission to go for prayer. He said, "No, we will go after eating the food so that this food does not trouble us during the prayer."

Hazrat Abdullah bin Harith says that when your food arrives and the call to prayer is given for Salah, then eat the food first and then offer the prayer.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when I returned from Iraq, food was placed before Hazrat Abu Talha and some other companions present with him. They said to me, "Come, eat food." I said, "I will eat after performing the prayer." They said, "You have adopted the habits of the people of Iraq; come, eat food."
