Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that whenever I heard a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah granted me some benefit from it. And if someone else narrated it to me, I would make him swear an oath to its truthfulness. If he swore, I would accept it as true. And Hazrat Abu Bakr truthfully narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whenever a servant commits a sin, then performs ablution well, then offers two rak‘ahs or any prayer, and seeks forgiveness from Allah, Allah forgives him.

Hazrat Salman says that if a person avoids major sins, the five prayers become an expiation for the times between them.

Hazrat Abdullah says that the obligatory prayers become an expiation for the sins committed in between them, provided that a person refrains from major sins.

It is narrated from Hazrat Uthman bin Affan that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever performs ablution well and offers prayer, all the sins committed between this prayer and the previous prayer are forgiven.

Hazrat Abu Musa narrates that the example of the five prayers is like that of a river flowing at someone's doorstep, and he bathes in it five times a day; would any dirt remain on his body?

Hazrat Humran bin Aban, the freed slave of Usman, narrates that I used to prepare water for Hazrat Usman for bathing. He would bathe with it every day, even if he used only a little water. One day he said that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told us after this prayer (Asr), "I do not know whether I should tell you something or remain silent?" We said, "O Messenger of Allah! If there is good in it, then tell us; if it is otherwise, then Allah and His Messenger know best." Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Whenever a person performs ablution well and then offers prayer, all his sins committed up to the previous prayer are forgiven."

Hazrat Abu Huraira states that two rak‘ahs are the expiation for every dispute.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The example of the five prayers is like that of a deep river flowing at someone's door, and he bathes in it every day. After narrating this hadith, Hasan said: Will there remain any dirt on his body?

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Burdah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whenever I perform a prayer, I believe that it has become an expiation for all the deeds up to the previous prayer.

Hazrat Abdullah says that people commit sins and then perform the Zuhr prayer, so their sins are washed away. Then they commit sins and perform the Asr prayer, so their sins are washed away. Then they commit sins and perform the Maghrib prayer, so their sins are washed away. In this way, he mentioned all five prayers.

It is narrated similarly through another chain.
