Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Yahya bin Amarah Mazni that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The entire earth is suitable for offering prayer, except that prayer should not be performed in graveyards and bathhouses."

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Umar saw me praying facing towards a grave. He started saying, "O Anas! It is a grave." I raised my head and started looking at the moon, so the people said that he was referring to the grave.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Umar saw me praying facing towards a grave, so he said, "There is a grave in front of you," and forbade me from praying facing towards a grave.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) says that do not perform prayer facing towards the toilet, bathhouse, or grave.

Hasan Arni states that prayer can be performed everywhere except in the toilet, bathhouse, and graveyard.

Hazrat Musayyib and Hazrat Khaythamah say that one should not pray facing the wall of a bathhouse, nor should one pray in the middle of a graveyard.

Hazrat Anas considered it undesirable that a mosque be built among the graves.

Ibrahim says that when the predecessors would go with a funeral and the time for prayer would come, they would move away from the graves and perform the prayer.

Ibrahim states that the predecessors disliked three rooms as qiblah: the toilet, the grave, and the bathhouse.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin says that it is disliked to pray facing towards the oven, because it is the house of fire.

Hasan narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarded praying between graves as disliked.

Hasan says that if the time for prayer occurs for a person in a graveyard, then he should perform the prayer, and Ibn Sirin says that he should return.

Hazrat Mak'hool considered it undesirable to perform prayer in the graveyard.

Hazrat Anas considered it undesirable for the funeral prayer to be offered in the graveyard.

Hazrat Aswad bin Shaiban narrates that I saw Hazrat Musa bin Anas perform the Asr prayer in the grave of his brother Nadr bin Anas, at a time when the grave had been half dug.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that one should not perform prayer facing towards the toilet, bathhouse, or graveyard.
