Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ibn Sirin states that I have learned that Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari repeated the Fajr prayer three times in one day. After performing the prayer and sitting down, he found out that he had prayed before the break of dawn. Therefore, he repeated the prayer. After performing the prayer and sitting down again, he found out that even then the dawn had not yet broken, so he performed the prayer for the third time.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) repeated the Fajr prayer three times in one day. When he finished the prayer, it was found out that he had performed the prayer before the break of dawn, so he repeated the prayer. Then he prayed again, and after finishing, it was found out that even then the dawn had not yet broken, so he performed the prayer for the third time.

Hasan narrates that during the time of Abdullah ibn Abbas, people were in doubt about the rising of dawn. He ordered his muezzin, who then gave the iqamah again, and Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) stepped forward and led the prayer. He recited the entire Surah Al-Baqarah, then performed ruku, then performed sajdah, then stood for the second rak'ah and recited the entire Surah Aal-e-Imran. Then he performed ruku and then sajdah. When the prayer was finished, it had become light.

Ibrahim narrates that once I had a cough and I went out for the Fajr prayer. The muezzin heard the sound of my cough and thought that dawn had broken. He gave the iqamah and we performed the Fajr prayer. Then we saw that dawn had not yet appeared, so after the actual break of dawn, we performed the prayer again.
