Those who say Witr is wajib
Hadith 7035
٧٠٣٥ - حدثنا أبو بكر قال: حدثنا يزيد بن هارون عن محمد بن إسحاق عن يزيد ابن أبي حبيب عن عبد اللَّه بن راشد (الزوفي) (١) (عن عبد اللَّه بن أبي مرة الزوفي) (٢) عن خارجة بن حذافة العدوي قال: خرج علينا رسول اللَّه ﷺ صلاة الغداة فقال: "لقد (أمدكم) (٣) اللَّه الليلة بصلاة هي خير لكم من حمر النعم" قال: قلنا: وما هي يا رسول اللَّه؟ قال: "الوتر فيما بين صلاة العشاء إلى ⦗٥٠٣⦘ طلوع الفجر" (٤).
Hazrat Kharijah bin Hudhafah ‘Adawi narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came for the Fajr prayer and said that Allah Almighty has made obligatory for you during the night a prayer which is better than red camels. We asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Which prayer is that?” He replied, “It is Witr, which is offered between ‘Isha and the rising of Fajr.”
Hadith 7036
٧٠٣٦ - حدثنا أبو خالد (الأحمر) (١) عن حجاج عن عمرو بن شعيب عن أبيه عن جده قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إن اللَّه زادكم صلاة إلى صلاتكم وهي الوتر" (٢).
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said that Allah Almighty has added a prayer to your prayers, that is, the Witr prayer.
Hadith 7037
٧٠٣٧ - حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن الزهري عن عطاء بن يزيد عن أبي أيوب قال: الوتر حق أو واجب (١).
Hazrat Abu Ayyub says that Witr is obligatory.
Hadith 7038
٧٠٣٨ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن إبراهيم بن ميسرة عن مجاهد قال: هو واجب (ولم) (١) يكتب.
Hazrat Mujahid says that Witr is obligatory but it is not fard.
Hadith 7039
٧٠٣٩ - حدثنا وكيع عن خليل بن مرة عن معاوية بن قرة عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "من لم يوتر فليس منّا" (١).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever does not offer Witr is not one of us.
Hadith 7040
٧٠٤٠ - حدثنا وكيع عن سفيان عن حماد قال: أخبرني (مخبر) (١) عن عبد اللَّه بن عمر قال: ما أحب (أنني) (٢) تركت الوتر (ولا) (٣) أن لي (حمر) (٤) النعم (٥).
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I do not like that I should get red camels and, because of them, miss the Witr prayer.
Hadith 7041
٧٠٤١ - حدثنا (زيد) (١) بن حباب قال: حدثنا أبو المنيب عن عبد اللَّه بن بريدة عن أبيه قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "الوتر حق فمن لم يوتر فليس منا" (٢).
Hazrat Buraidah narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Witr is obligatory, and whoever does not perform Witr is not one of us.
Hadith 7042
٧٠٤٢ - حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال: أخبرنا (هشام) (١) عن محمد عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول اللَّه ﷺ: "إن اللَّه (تعالى) (٢) وتر يحب الوتر" (٣).
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty is Odd (Single) and He loves odd (single) numbers.
