Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hasan narrates that once a man entered the mosque when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had already finished the prayer. The Prophet said, "Is there anyone who will pray with him?" Hazrat Abu Bakr stood up and performed the same prayer with him, even though he had already offered the prayer before.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Nu’man bin Muqarrin was the commander of the army of the people of Kufa, and Abu Musa Ash’ari was the commander of the army of the people of Basra. I was between the two of them. Both of them fixed a time with me. In the morning, both of them gathered with me. One of them led his companions in the Fajr prayer, and when they came to me, I was leading the prayer. They came and prayed with me as well.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) was engaged in a construction, so he performed the Zuhr prayer there. When he passed by a mosque of Banu Awf, they were performing the Zuhr prayer. He performed the Zuhr prayer with them as well.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that if a person offers prayer in his house and then gets the opportunity to join the congregational prayer, then except for Fajr and Maghrib, he should join that congregation for the remaining prayers.

Hazrat Bakr bin Abdullah Muzani reports that Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked about three men: they had performed the Asr prayer, then passed by a mosque. One of them prayed with the congregation, the second went ahead, and the third sat down by the door of the mosque. What is the ruling regarding these three? He replied: The one who prayed with the congregation attained goodness upon goodness; the one who went ahead did so for his need; and the one who sat at the door of the mosque did an insignificant and trivial act.

Hazrat Asim says that Hazrat Ibn Sirin once went out after offering the Friday and Asr prayers; I was with him. When he passed by a mosque where the Asr prayer was being held, he entered the mosque and offered the Asr prayer in congregation.

Ibrahim used to say that all prayers except Maghrib can be repeated. If there is fear of the ruler, then perform the Maghrib prayer with him as well; when he finishes, add one more rak'ah to it.

Hazrat Abu Ishaq says that I performed the Asr prayer with my family. Then I went out with Hazrat Ibn Aswad, and we passed by a mosque where prayer was being held. He said, "Let us go into this mosque and pray." I said, "I have already performed the prayer." He said, "Even if you have already prayed, still perform it."

Hazrat Abu Qalabah was asked: If a person offers the Zuhr or Asr prayer, and then he gets the opportunity to join the congregation for those prayers, what should he do? He replied: It is not obligatory for him to strive for the congregation, but if he is in the mosque and the congregation stands, then he should join it.

Hazrat Ubaidullah bin Umar says that I performed the Zuhr prayer at my home, then I came to the mosque and found people offering the prayer. I asked Hazrat Salim about this, and he said, "Pray with them."

Hazrat Abu Majliz says that all prayers except Maghrib can be repeated. Maghrib prayer is odd; do not make it even.

Hazrat Mughira states that Ibrahim did not consider the repetition of the Asr prayer to be disliked.

Hazrat Ibn Abi Aroobah says that I asked Hasan about a person who comes to the mosque after having performed the obligatory prayer, and at that time people are performing that prayer. He replied that except for Fajr and Asr, he should perform the rest of the prayers with them.

Hazrat Aamir says that he will repeat all the prayers.

Hazrat Hakam did not consider it objectionable to repeat any of the prayers except Fajr; he regarded the repetition of the Fajr prayer as disliked.
