Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Tahajjud prayer and the Duha prayer are to be performed in sets of two rak‘ahs each.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to perform four units (rak‘ahs) each in the Duha (forenoon) prayer.

Yahya says that there are four units (rak‘ahs) in the Duha (forenoon) prayer.

Ibrahim says that there are four units (rak‘ahs) in the Duha (forenoon) prayer.

Hazrat Ibn Aun says that I asked Hazrat Nafi about the voluntary prayers (nawafil) of the day, how many rak‘ahs should they be performed in? He replied that I perform four. I mentioned this to Muhammad, and he said, "Does he not perform two rak‘ahs?!" Remember.

Hasan says that the Tahajjud prayer and the Duha prayer consist of two units each.

Hazrat Hanzalah bin Abdul Kareem says that I asked Hazrat Hammad about this matter, so he said that in the Duha (forenoon) prayer, there are two units (rak‘ahs) each.

Hazrat Habib bin Abi Amrah says that Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair used to offer two units of voluntary prayer during the night and day.
