Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Qais bin Amr narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man performing two rak'ahs after the Fajr prayer, so he said to him, "Is the Fajr prayer performed twice?" The man replied, "I had not performed the Sunnah before the obligatory Fajr prayer, so I am offering them now." Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent.

Hazrat Ata narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Fajr prayer, and after the prayer, a man stood up and performed two rak‘ahs. The Prophet asked him, "What were these rak‘ahs?" He replied, "When I came to the mosque, you were leading the prayer. I had not performed the two Sunnah rak‘ahs before Fajr, and I did not wish to perform them while you were leading the prayer. When you completed the prayer, I then performed them." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and neither forbade him from anything nor commanded him regarding anything.

Hazrat Masma' bin Thabit says that I have also seen Hazrat Ata' doing the same.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that if the two Sunnah before Fajr are missed, then they should be offered after the (Fajr) prayer.

Hazrat Qasim says that if I do not offer these Sunnahs before the Fajr obligatory prayers, then I will offer them after sunrise.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) once came at the time of Fajr prayer and the people were already praying. He had not yet performed the Sunnah of Fajr. He joined the congregation, then remained seated at the place of prayer, and at the time of Duha, he made up those rak‘ahs.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin states that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) made up the missed Sunnah prayers of Fajr after the forenoon (Chasht) time.

Hazrat Aamir says that the missed Sunnah prayers of Fajr should not be made up.

Hazrat Atiyyah says that I saw Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) performing the Sunnah prayers after the Imam had said the Salam.
