Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ibrahim says that the predecessors considered it disliked to sit reclining towards the Qiblah after the Sunnah prayers of Fajr.

Hazrat Qasim bin Abdur Rahman narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) once came to the mosque and, seeing some people reclining in the direction of the Qiblah, said: "Why are you sitting facing the faces of the angels?"

Hazrat Mujahid narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) would, after the break of dawn, perform the Sunnah prayers of Fajr and then sit cross-legged. We would sit around him. When he saw any of us dozing off, he would shake him; he himself would also be dozing in the cross-legged position. Then, when the prayer was established, he would get up and join the congregation.

The father of Hazrat Qasim narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) once came to the mosque and, seeing some people reclining in the direction of the Qiblah, said: "Sit away from the Qiblah; do not place a barrier between the angels and their prayer. These two rak'ahs are also the prayer of the angels."
