Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Maymun bin Mehran narrates that Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) performed the Maghrib prayer with a group. When the Imam finished the prayer with salam, a man who had prayed with them stood up intending to offer the two Sunnah (rak‘ahs). Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) pulled him back and ordered him to sit, and said that if you delay these two rak‘ahs a little, there is no harm; just wait a bit.

Hazrat Maymoon states that the predecessors considered it preferable to delay the two rak'ahs after Maghrib until the stars became visible.

Hazrat Ibn Aun says that Hazrat Raja bin Haywah, after offering the two Sunnah of Maghrib, would not perform any prayer after the disappearance of the twilight.
