Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Apart from the obligatory prayers, the best prayer a person can offer is the one performed at home.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Yazid narrates that I saw Hazrat Saib bin Yazid leaving the mosque after performing the obligatory prayer without offering any (additional) prayer. That is, he did not perform any nawafil (supererogatory prayers) in the mosque.

Ibrahim reports that Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about performing voluntary prayers in the mosque after the obligatory prayer, so he replied that he considered it disliked. This is because everyone is performing prayers there, and in this way, there will be differences in their prayers!

Hazrat A'mash says that I did not see Ibrahim offering nawafil (supererogatory prayers) in the mosque.

Hazrat Naseer bin Zaalooq says that I have not seen Hazrat Rabee’ bin Khuthaim offering nawafil (supererogatory prayers) in the mosque.

Hazrat Abu Ma'mar says that when you have finished offering the obligatory prayer, then go to your home.

Hazrat Nu’man bin Qais narrates that I never saw Hazrat ‘Ubaidah offering nawafil (supererogatory prayers) in the mosque except on one occasion.

Hazrat Imran bin Muslim narrates that Hazrat Suwaid bin Ghaflah would not perform any voluntary (nafl) prayers after the obligatory prayer; rather, as soon as he finished the prayer with salam, he would go straight to his home.

Hazrat Nu’man bin Qais narrates that Hazrat ‘Ubaidah would not perform any prayer in his mosque after offering the obligatory prayer.
