Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Auf narrates that a agent appointed by Hazrat Muawiyah for the collection of Zakat came and saw two mosques. He asked, "Which of these is the older mosque?" When he was informed, he offered prayer in the older mosque.

Hazrat Laith says that in such-and-such mosque, Hazrat Abu Wa'il missed his prayer (due to some reason), so he performed it (as a make-up prayer) in such-and-such mosque, even though there were several mosques between the two which had been newly built; he did not pray in those mosques.

Hazrat Thabit Banani says that whenever I would come to a mosque with Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he would hear its call to prayer and ask, "Is this a new mosque?" People would say, "Yes." Upon this, he would go ahead in search of another mosque.

Hazrat Mujahid used to go to old mosques, leaving the new mosques.

Hazrat Auf narrates that a villager told him that during the time of Hazrat Muawiyah, his representative came to us to collect Zakat. One day, he was sitting at our spring when the time for prayer arrived. At that time, there were many mosques of the villagers at that spring. He asked which of these mosques was built first. When he was informed, he went to that very mosque.

Hasan was asked whether a person can leave the mosque of his own people and go to another mosque? He replied that the predecessors liked that a person should give preference to his own people with his presence.
