Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Salih narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The four rak'ahs before Zuhr are equal to Tahajjud.

Hazrat Musayyib bin Rafi’ says that Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari asked, “What are those four rak’ahs that you regularly perform before Zuhr?” The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “At the time of the sun’s decline, the gates of Paradise are opened and they are not closed until the prayer is performed. I wish that my prayer be presented first.”

It is narrated similarly through another chain.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Utbah narrates that I offered four rak‘ahs with Hazrat Umar in his room before Zuhr.

Hazrat Amr bin Maymoon states that the companions never omitted the four rak'ahs before Zuhr and the two rak'ahs before Fajr under any circumstances.

Hazrat Abdullah says that one should not say salam between the four rak‘ahs of Zuhr, but should recite the tashahhud.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Utbah narrates that I saw Hazrat Umar performing four rak'ahs before Zuhr.

Hazrat Ibn Abi Numayr states that Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib used to perform four rak'ahs before Zuhr.

An Ansari elder narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The reward for four rak'ahs before Zuhr is equal to freeing a slave from among the descendants of Ismail.

Hazrat Salim narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to perform four rak'ahs before Zuhr.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair used to offer four rak'ahs before Zuhr.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform four rak'ahs before Zuhr.
