Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah narrates that Hazrat Umar came on the day of Eid and he asked Abu Waqid Laithi which surahs the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to recite on this day. He replied that Surah Qaf and Surah Al-Qamar.

Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-Ghashiyah and Surah Al-A'la in the prayers of the two Eids and Jumu'ah. When both Jumu'ah and Eid occurred on the same day, he would recite these same Surahs in both.

Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to recite Surah Al-A'la and Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayers.

It is narrated similarly through another chain.

Hazrat Tawus narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah Al-Qamar in the first rak'ah of Eid and Surah Qaf in the second.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr recited Surah Al-Baqarah on the day of Eid al-Fitr, to the extent that I saw an old man begin to bend due to the lengthy standing.

Abdul Malik bin Umair narrates that Hazrat Umar used to recite Surah Al-A'la and Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayer.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-A'la and Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayer.

Kurdoos narrates that Hazrat Abdullah was summoned by Waleed bin Uqbah, so Hazrat Abdullah said to Waleed, "Recite Surah Al-Fatihah and a Surah from the Mufassal which is neither too short nor too long."

A freed slave of Hazrat Anas says that on the day of Eid, I went with Hazrat Anas for the prayer. We saw in a corner that a freed slave of Hazrat Anas was reciting Surah Al-A'la and Surah Al-Ghashiyah. Hazrat Anas said that these are the very Surahs which the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite in Eid prayers.
