Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hasan narrates that we were listening to the sermon of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came, stepping over people's necks, and sat near the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he said to him, "Why did you not offer the Friday prayer?" He replied, "Did you not see me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I saw you; first you were late, and then you caused discomfort to the people."

Hazrat Mukhaymirah says that the example of the person who, on the day of Jumu'ah, comes stepping over people's necks during the Imam's sermon is like that of a person who is placing one foot in the fire and lifting the other.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib says that for me, offering prayer at the place of Harrah is more beloved than stepping over people's necks.

Hazrat Ubaid bin Hasan narrates that I saw Hazrat Urwah bin Mughira come for Jumu'ah; when he reached the rows, he stood there and did not step over people's necks.

Muhammad says that people say that Muhammad jumps over people's necks on Friday. However, I do not jump over necks; rather, when people see me, they themselves make space for me.

Hazrat Abu Qais narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the mosque on Friday. He was wearing beautiful white clothes. He saw an open spot, sat there, and did not step over people's necks.

Hasan says that if there is space in the front rows, then there is no harm in stepping over necks.

Hazrat Ismail bin Abi Khalid narrates that I saw Hazrat Shurayh come during the Friday sermon and sit down. He did not step over people's necks to move forward.

Hazrat Salman says: Refrain from stepping over necks to move forward on Friday; sit wherever you find a place.

Hazrat Abu Huraira says that for me, offering prayer at the place of Harrah is more beloved than stepping over people's necks.

Hazrat Ka'b says that it is more beloved to me to miss the Friday prayer than to step over people's necks.
