Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah narrates that the prayer and sermon of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to be moderate.

Hazrat Abdullah says that brevity of the sermon and lengthiness of the prayer are signs of a man's understanding of religion.

Hazrat Abdullah says: Perform the prayer well and keep the sermon short.

Hazrat Abu Rashid narrates that Hazrat Ammar delivered a sermon to us, and it was a brief sermon. A man said to him, "You were delivering a very effective speech; it would have been better if you had made it longer!" He replied, "The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade making the sermon lengthy."
