Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Friday and Eid prayers can only be held in the central congregational mosque of the city.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the prayers of Jumu'ah, Eid al-Fitr, and Eid al-Adha can only be held in the central mosque and in a large city. Hajjaj says that I have also heard Hazrat Ata say the same.

Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Jumu'ah is not obligatory upon those who live in villages. Jumu'ah is obligatory upon the people of the city.

Hasan and Muhammad say that Jumu'ah is held only in cities.

Hasan was asked whether Jumu'ah is obligatory upon the people of Ubullah (1). He replied, "No." 1 (Ubullah was the name of a village located on the outskirts of Basrah.)

Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Muhammad sent this message to the people of Dhu’l-Hulaifah: Do not offer the Friday prayer there, but come to Masjid Nabawi and offer the Friday prayer.
