Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that I asked Hazrat Suhaib, "If someone greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam during prayer, what would he do?" He replied that the Prophet would gesture with his hand.

Hazrat Ata says that I greeted Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), at that time he was standing in front of the Ka'bah offering prayer, he took hold of my hand in response.

Hazrat Ata says that I greeted Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), he was performing prayer, he did not reply to my greeting and extended his hand towards me and shook hands with me.

Hazrat Abu Huraira narrates that when someone greets you with Salam while you are performing prayer, then respond to his Salam.

Hazrat Jabir says that I will not greet any person who is praying. Abu Muawiyah has added that if someone greets me during prayer, I will reply to his greeting.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that if any of you is greeted with salam during prayer, he should respond by gesturing with his hand.

Hazrat Abu Majliz was asked: If a person is greeted with salam during prayer, what should he do? He replied: He should incline his head to the right and respond.

Ibrahim says that if someone is greeted with salam during prayer, he should reply to the salam after finishing. If the person has left, he should send salam to him.

Hazrat Ibn Sirin narrates that when Hazrat Abdullah returned from Habsha, he greeted the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam during prayer. The Prophet responded to his salam with a gesture of the head.

Hazrat Ata bin Abi Rabah narrates that a man greeted Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) with salam during prayer, so he held his hand, shook hands with him, and pressed his hand.

Hazrat Sufyan says that the greeting of Salam should not be answered during prayer; rather, after completing the prayer, if the person is near, then respond to his Salam, and if he is far, then greet him with Salam.

Hazrat Abu Alia was asked: If someone is greeted with Salam during prayer, what should he do? He replied: After completing the prayer, he should return the Salam.

Hazrat Ammar says that I came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was performing prayer. I greeted him with salam, and he replied to my salam.
