Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Ubaidah bin Rabee'ah says that I came to Maqam Ibrahim, where a man dressed in beautiful clothes and wearing fine fragrance was standing and reciting the Holy Qur'an in prayer. A person standing next to him was prompting him (with verses). I asked, "Who is this?" People told me that it was Hazrat Uthman.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if the Imam asks you for a prompt (correction), then give him the prompt.

Hazrat Zuhri says that Marwan was prompted during prayer, and the Companions were also prompted during prayer.

Hasan and Hazrat Ibn Sirin did not consider it objectionable to give a morsel to the Imam.

Hasan and Hazrat Ibn Sirin say that the imam will be prompted (corrected).

Muhammad says that Ibn Mughaffal ordered a man to give him a morsel when he forgot.

Hazrat Hilal bin Abi Humaid says that when Abdullah bin Akeem would forget in prayer, I used to prompt him. One day he asked me, "Did you pray with us?" I said, "No." He said, "That is why I was in great difficulty at night; I had doubt at one point, but there was no one to prompt me!"

Hazrat Ata says that there is no harm in prompting the Imam.

Hazrat Yazid bin Roman says that I used to recite (Qur'an) with Hazrat Nafi' bin Jubair bin Mut'im; if he forgot at any place, I used to prompt him during the prayer.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) led us in prayer. At one point, he became hesitant, so I prompted him, and he accepted my prompt.
