Can Qur'anic Verses or Other Writings Be Written Facing the Qiblah in the Mosque?
Hadith 4654
٤٦٥٤ - حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن (خصيف) (١) عن مقسم قال: قال ابن عباس: لا يصلى (في بيت) (٢) فيه تماثيل (٣).
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Do not pray in a room in which there are pictures.
Hadith 4655
٤٦٥٥ - حدثنا ابن علية عن أيوب عن عطاء الخراساني قال: لما بني المسجد في عهد عثمان جعلوا في سقفه (أترجه) (١) فكان الداخل إذا دخل يسمو بصره إليها فبلغ ذلك عثمان فأمر بها فنزعت (٢).
Hazrat Ata Khurasani says that when the mosque was constructed during the caliphate of Hazrat Usman, people placed oranges on the roof of the mosque. Now, whoever entered the mosque would first see them. Hazrat Usman ordered them to be removed, so they were taken down.
Hadith 4656
٤٦٥٦ - حدثنا ابن عيينة عن منصور بن صفية عن خاله مسافع عن (أخته) (١) ⦗٥٠٨⦘ صفية أم منصور قالت: أخبرتني امرأة من أهل الدار من بني سليم (قالت) (٢): قلت لعثمان بن طلحة لم دعاك وسول اللَّه ﷺ (حين) (٣) خرج من البيت قال: قال: "إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ قَرْنَيْ الْكَبْشِ فَنَسِيتُ أَنْ، آمُرَكَ أَنْ تُخَمِّرَهُمَا وَأَنَّهُ لَا يَنْبغي أن يَكُونَ فِي البَيْتِ شَيْءٌ يَشْغَلُ المُصَلِّيَ" (٤).
A woman from Banu Sulaym says that I asked Hazrat Uthman, "What did the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say to you when he was leaving the room?" Hazrat Uthman replied, "The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said that I have seen two horns of a ram. I forgot to instruct you to cover them with a cloth. There should not be anything in the room that distracts the person offering prayer."
Hadith 4657
٤٦٥٧ - حدثنا وكيع عن عيسى بن حميد قال: سأل عقبةُ الحسنَ قال: إن في (مسجدنا) (١) (ساجة) (٢) فيها تصاوير قال: (انجروها) (٣).
Hazrat Uqbah asked Hazrat Hasan that our mosque is made of Saj and there are pictures in it. He replied that remove those pictures.
Hadith 4658
٤٦٥٨ - حدثنا ابن مهدي عن خالد عن أبي عثمان قال: حدثتني لبابة عن (أمها) (١) وكانت تخدم عثمان بن عفان: أن عثمان بن عفان كان يصلي إلى تابوت فيه (تماثيل) (٢) فأمر به فحك (٣).
Hazrat Lubabah narrates from her mother that Hazrat Usman used to pray facing a cupboard on which there were pictures. He ordered that these pictures be scraped off, so they were scraped off from it.
