Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

A student of Hazrat Ikrimah narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to look around by moving his eyes during prayer without turning his blessed neck.

Hazrat Taimi says that Hazrat Ikrimah also used to do the same.

Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to look around with his eyes during prayer, but he would not turn his blessed face.

Ibrahim used to say that if the imam makes a mistake in the prayer and is not aware of it, he should turn around and find out from the person standing behind him.

Hazrat Anas bin Sirin says that I have seen Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) looking at something during prayer.

Hazrat Muawiyah bin Qurrah narrates that it was said to Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that when Hazrat Ibn Zubair stands in prayer, he neither looks here and there nor moves. Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "But we do look here and there and we also move."

Ibrahim says that if the imam makes a mistake and does not know how many units of prayer he has performed, he should look at the person standing behind him to see what he is doing.

Hazrat Waleed bin Abdullah says that I have seen Ibrahim turning his eyes to the right and left during prayer.

Hazrat Fitr says that Hazrat Ibn Ma'qil also used to do this.
