Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Sha'bi narrates that I prayed behind Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu'bah. When he stood up in the second rak'ah, people recited tasbih, but he did not sit down. When he finished the prayer with salam, he sat and performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajda sahw). Then he said that I saw the Messenger of Allah, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), do the same.

Hazrat Qais narrates that Sa’d bin Malik led his companions in prayer. When he began to stand up in the second rak’ah, the people recited tasbih, but he did not sit down and gestured to the people to stand up. Then he completed the prayer and performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajda sahw).

Hazrat Ibn Buhaina narrates that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up instead of sitting after performing two rak'ahs of Zuhr prayer. Then, when he was about to finish the prayer, before saying the salam, he performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajda sahw) and then said the salam.

Hazrat Nafi' narrates that Hazrat Ibn Zubair, after performing two rak'ahs, stood up, so the people said tasbih. Until he realized that he had made a mistake, yet he continued to perform the prayer.

Hazrat Sha'bi narrates that Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir led the prayer. After performing two rak'ahs, he was about to stand up, so the people said "Tasbeeh," but he continued the prayer. When he finished the prayer, he sat down and performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajda sahw).

Hazrat Ibn Aun says that I said to Hazrat Sha'bi that I performed two rak'ahs of prayer, and when I should have sat down, I stood up. He said that if it were me, I would have continued the prayer.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Shumasa narrates that Hazrat Uqbah bin Amir stood up from the place of sitting in the prayer. The people said "Subhan Allah," so he understood their intention. When he completed the prayer, he performed two prostrations while sitting. And he said, "I heard what you said, and this is the Sunnah."

Hazrat Ata, regarding the person who stands up after performing two rak'ahs of an obligatory prayer, says: If he stands up completely, he should continue his prayer. And when he completes the prayer, after saying salam, he should perform two prostrations.

Hasan, regarding the person who is performing two units of an obligatory prayer and forgets to recite Tashahhud and begins to stand up, says that if he has stood up completely, he should continue the prayer and perform two prostrations of forgetfulness.

Hazrat Thabit bin Ubaid says that I prayed behind Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu’bah. After completing two rak’ahs, instead of sitting, he stood up, and when he finished, he performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajda sahw).

Muhammad narrates that Hazrat Imran bin Husain led us in prayer in the mosque; he either stood up after two rak‘ahs or sat down after three rak‘ahs. Hisham is of the opinion that he sat down after two rak‘ahs. When he completed the prayer, he performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajda sahw).

Hazrat Sha'bi says that Dahhak bin Qais led the people in the Zuhr prayer and did not sit after the first two rak'ahs. When he finished with salam, he sat and performed two prostrations of forgetfulness.
